Hello! My name is Chelsea Dutra
I am a recent graduate from California State University East Bay, where I earned my Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree in Art with a concentration in Graphic Design. I'm proud to say that I have graduated with highest honors, a reflection of my dedication and passion for the field, as well as for learning.
For as long as I can remember, design has played a significant role in my life as a form of self-expression. From customizing my early social media profiles, to studying different typefaces for fun, to painting my bedroom a different color every year, I can say I have always had a love for experimenting with visual aesthetics.
After completing high school in 2011, I attended community college for a year with Graphic Design as my declared major. But being the impatient 18-year-old that I was, and having received negative dialogue from others about working in the art industry, I dropped out and looked into trade schools. In 2013, I graduated from the National Holistic Institute in San Francisco as a Massage Therapist & Health Educator.
Fast forward to 2020, I began taking classes full time with plans to become a school counselor. I received my AA in Sociology and was ready to transfer to university. But after a lot of time and deliberation—and even taking a whole semester off—I realized that wasn’t really what I wanted to pursue. During this time, I found that an old dream that I had tucked away in the corner of my mind kept revealing itself to me. So I changed my major back and had to essentially start over from scratch.
My path has been unconventional and non-linear, but despite this, I have completed my BFA program and feel eager to begin my career. I'm ready to apply my current skills and to continue learning even more.
Some other things about me: I'm a houseplant mom, I collect vinyl records, and I love vintage and antique items. I also love listening to music, discovering new artists, watching movies, playing video games, being out in nature, traveling, animals, and spending time with my people.
Physical forms of art mediums I like to play around with: embroidery, watercolor painting, and charcoal.
Thank you for reading! ☺
